Runner-up in the 2018 Club Crest Challenge by Logoinspirations and Trey Ingram.

I was slow to enter into the Club Crest Challenge for a few reasons; 1. I know little to nothing about soccer (or football if that's your thing), and 2. I could barely find time to eat let alone redesign a soccer crest, and 3. I don't have a favorite soccer team. The combination of those points made me feel like maybe this wasn't going to be something I would do well in. I figured my approach to designing crests would be blow out by the colorful and ornamental designs that I began to see fill up my Instagram feed. 36 hours before the end of the competitions, while sitting at my desk at work, I thought "why the hell not at least try?" I love designing badges and crests so why not?

And why AFC Wimbledon? That honor goes to John Green. I read a few of his books and watch his YouTube channel Vlogbrothers regularly, and he often mentions how much of a fan he is of AFC Wimbledon. That was the only team that I could think of and to my surprise—their logo was both awesome and bad. A perfect recipe for a fun redesign.

I'm so glad I took a few hours from sleep to complete this redesign on the final day of entries. Finding out I was runner-up behind the talented Peter Voth is a reminder that I should be a little more open to things outside my comfort zone. To wrap this all up, big thanks to Logoinspirations and Trey Ingram to creating this competition and for recognizing my work. It means a lot.
